Black Girls Rock are Women on the Move from the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia (BGR DMV) area, is a 501(c)3 committed to empowering the lives of young black girls and women by liberating their minds and changing the way the world perceives their strength.

  • We strive to enhance, develop and host events that:

  • Build self-esteem and self-worth to/for/with young girls and women of all ages;

  • Develop and facilitate networks among women in the DMV that will encourage bonds of friendship, mutual support and creative exchange of ideas and information;

  • Create opportunities where women can serve young girls and women in our communities in different facets of their lives throughout the region; and,

  • Commission and empower young girls and women to lead and serve.

Adventure Amputee Camp

The Adventure Amputee Camp is a 100% non-profit organization with the sole purpose of providing a memorable camp experience to children with limb loss or limb differences. The camp is free to children who qualify and held in the mountains of North Carolina for 5 days in July. During that week, camp attendees participate in white water rafting, 20 foot/40 foot ropes courses, adaptive tennis, adaptive water skiing, scuba diving, etc. There are typically have 34 campers, ages 7-17, and by the end of those 5 days, campers and counselors truly become a family.

The Maddy Wagon, is a 501 (c) (3) charity. When Madison Garrett was first diagnosed with cancer she could not walk, and found comfort in a little red Radio Flyer wagon. After undergoing treatment Maddy has been cancer free since 2013. Now each year, she and the Garrett family fill wagons with donated gifts and other items and deliver them to children hospitalized at Children’s National Medical Center for cancer treatment during the Christmas holiday.

No family ever pays St. Jude for anything” (St. Jude).

St. Jude was highlighted as our cause for the research innovation they conduct at the hospital to help treat Sickle Cell patients. Their research helps improve the lives of sickle cell patients worldwide.

My Three Sicklers 501(c)(3) organization

My Three Sicklers is a 501(c)(3) foundation for children living with sickle cell disorders.  The foundation is committed to providing support in 3 main ways:

  1. MTSSCF sponsors children to attend summer camps specially designed for their needs. 
  2. Meal vouchers are given to families who attend appointments at the GA sickle cell treatment center.
  3. Birthday gifts to children living with sickle cell, because every birthday reached is a huge milestone.
